HETIRISK approaches ergonomics by considering the increasing cost of workers' compensation coverage. We customize ergonomic training sessions that vary from training insurance carrier loss control staff in risk factor identification to training floor level personnel in job task re-design. We often use live video of workstations and procedures in our training and consultation. Our typical services include:

    Ergonomics Photo Ergonomic Task Analysis
Our ergonomic specialists typically perform a workplace survey to evaluate ergonomic stressors. Based on site observations, HETIRISK can help identify quick fix, low-cost workstation modifications that can be handled by the client's local personnel. HETIRISK follows best practices recommended by NIOSH and the University of Michigan Bio-mechanics program.

    Ergonomic and Materials Handling Training
HETIRISK ergonomics specialists make on-site observations of common ergonomic stressors and tasks that are videotaped for use in the training. Supervisory personnel are brought into a classroom setting where the principles of ergonomic risks and controls are introduced…and the videotape is used to explain how to do an ergonomic task analysis. Attendees are then split into teams and sent into the facility to perform an ergonomic task analysis using the concepts just learned. The team then is coached through presenting their task analysis and the recommended ergonomic interventions that were developed as part of the hands-on training.

    HETIRISK consultants can also:
    • Discuss longer term, capital-intensive suggestions with client management to assist in cost benefit analysis
    • Review with supervisors work practice modifications that will reduce exposure…and determine what, if any, roadblocks exist to implementation
    • Incorporate ergonomic enhancements into a training program for supervisory and production personnel

Representative Projects*

Paper Mill - Conducted numerous task analyses of manual material handling activities and developed recommendations to modify work tasks and workstations. Cost of risk was provided to help management in short- and long-term action planning.

Oil Production/Warehousing - Evaluated facility's ergonomic risk management program including the availability of mechanical handling aids, ergonomic education of employees, labor involvement in new process hazard reviews, periodic workplace inspections by staff members, incident reporting process, corrective action management process, and ready access to a licensed health care provider.

Regional Office of Federal Agency - Conducted more than 50 task analyses of manual material handling and office activities. Provided "train-the-trainer" training for safety specialists and site supervisors allowing them to perform their own evaluations at more than 10 remote facilities.
